Agencies usually function in one of two ways…
Who are we?
We are an online platform where music students and tutors can easily find each other.
Finding the right tutor is incredibly important. But it’s not always that easy.
We attract the best music tutors in London by providing the best platform for them to advertise their tuition services. As a result, you have a website with only the best music tutors at your disposal.

A platform that both teachers and learners love

Spreading the word about good learning techniques
There is a wealth of techniques that can accelerate your learning in all subjects, including music. These techniques are sometimes used in STEM subjects, but they haven’t found their way into music education yet.
We share this knowledge with all our teachers and encourage them to get a deep understanding of how these techniques and methods can be used when learning an instrument. The teachers can then use these techniques in the lessons and pass on this knowledge to their students.
As a result, not only will the student learn their instrument faster and more thoroughly, but they can also use these techniques when learning their other school subjects, accelerating their progress in those subjects as well.

How it all began
Beyond Music began with the discovery that it’s difficult to find a music tutor that ticks all boxes. If you go through an agency you are likely to be either overcharged or get an underpaid and therefore uncommitted tutor.
If you find a freelance tutor yourself who set their own prices, it can be really difficult to find a good tutor. And when you’ve finally found a tutor who seems good on the surface, how do you know that they are using good educational techniques and make sure their students are developing good habits instead of bad habits?
That’s really difficult to get right. Which is why we needed to create Beyond Music to solve all these problems.
Now we are sourcing the best music tutors in London so that you can browse through them and find the one that matches your specific learning style. to create a platform where you can find the best tutors in London.
How are we different from a traditional agency?
They take a cut from the student
Some agencies take commission from the student on top of what you already have to pay for the tutor. Since they take this commission for every single lesson, this results in very high fees for you. Usually more than most people can afford, or want to afford.

Or they take a cut from the tutor
The other way that an agency can function is that they take commission from the tutor. This is cheaper for the student but leaves the student with another problem. After a while, most tutors feel a sense of unfairness that the agency keeps taking a cut even though they are just sending invoices. Once the agency has found a student for the tutor, they have done most of their job. The tutor feels underpaid and would be much happier if the student dealt directly with them.

This has huge repercussions for the student
The student is now left with a less committed tutor. As a result of being with an agency that takes ongoing commission, they will care less about giving high-quality lessons. The fact that they care is essential for giving you high-quality teaching.
We have noticed this issue and decided to do something about it.
Unlike agencies that take commission for every single lesson for as long as you’re with them, we don’t take any ongoing commission from our tutors. It’s just not fair. We are a matching platform where tutors and students can find each other. At most, we take a small fee for their first 5 lessons for every new students. After this, we stop taking commission.
How are we different from other listing sites and online sources?
The benefit of listing sites
Many listing sites remove the middle man that takes commission. The money goes directly to the tutor. It will end up being cheaper for the student since no one charges anything extra on top of the tutor’s fee. And the tutors will be content and committed since they are fully paid without anyone taking commission from them. Great!
There is just one problem…

Can the tutor quality on listing sites be trusted?
Agencies can to a much better degree guarantee that the tutors are of high quality. On the other hand, listing sites have little control over what kind of tutors register on their website. Some listing sites don’t vet the tutors who register. And even though tutors show that they have some experience as a musician, that’s only half of the tutor’s job. A good player is not always a good teacher. These listing sites end up with a lot of profiles. But to separate the wheat from the chaff, you might have to search for a long time. It’s too easy for mediocre tutors to register.

The best from both worlds
One thing that makes Beyond Music so different is our recruiting process which is similar to that of an agency. We are a lot more selective and take great care in recruiting only the best tutors that we think music students will love. Music tutors who want a profile on our website have to apply. They are then being checked by our experienced educators who evaluate their teaching skills as well as their experience in their profession. That’s how we make sure that all tutors on our website have something really valuable to offer their students.
